View Full Version : Cabbage Tree 29/10/06
Hi all,
I am running a day trip to Cabbage Tree on Sunday, 29/10/06.
Meeting point is BP @ North Richmond (LHS coming from Richmond just after the bridge over the Hawkesbury river) @ 9:30 am for a 10:00 am departure. This will be the morning tea stop as well
As this is a "B' trip you will need to have recovery points front and rear,a snatch strap, shackles and a UHF radio(hand held is fine).
Convoy procedure will be followed and National Park rules apply(no dogs, must be registered and licenced etc)
If it is raining I will postpone the trip to another date. You can check here or call me on 0408409917 on the Sat before.Or you can drop me an email at jumbo01@optusnet.com.au
So pack your lunch and your sense of adventure, dust those winter cobwebs off the 4wd lever and come out to enjoy a trip out to one of the last local tracks left near Sydney. :D
PS As is the usual procedure with my trips the LAST one to arrive at the meeting point will be writing the trip report for the Wave...  :D
Cheers

I'd love to but i can't do Sundays...next time
While this sounds like a great trip, I wont be able to come along. The machinery may make it, but the driver needs a few more 'C' trips under his belt before moving on to the next class.
Am very interested in seeing pics, or possibly coming along as a passenger, if anyone has a spare seat, I could be persuaded to fill it.

Steve
if i go you can grab a seat with me if you dare matt
This trip will be the first real test of my new suspension apart from meani arvo/night run this weekend so i am looking forward to it.
Thanks Warren,
I will take you up on that offer.
Mmmm I just got cold chils down my spine ... and why do I keep likening this experience to Homer eating Chief Wiggum's Guatamalean Insanity Pepper?
Oh well what ever doesn't kill me can only make me stronger!!

No probs not really expecting anyone to commit just yet.,well except for the trip leader and tail end charlie  Just thought I'd give every one as much notice as I could.

There is a little bit of "C" grade stuff on the way in and a nice little trail up to a look out that is suitable for stockers. You could bring yours in for the "C" and park at the top of the rough stuff. Then hitch a ride or walk down to where all the action is happening. The track is down to the river turn around and back out the same way.Pretty short but can be interesting depending on line choice.

..was going to make it Saturday but I have a wedding to go to and this is the only week end I have free till the end of November

Yep unlocked should be fine,we had a unlocked pootrol do it with very little problems.I'm sure we'll have plenty of eager roadbuilders around to help out when needed any way. 8)

Antz, that must have been early that day before we had TWO winches going to get Chrispy off that little ledge.
That was the the day I popped my first spring out driving down into Cabbage Tree!
It would be good to see what is down the end of the track  , or just get there!. I'm in ,if, I am not working- (have to wait for the roster.).
i'm 80% in... time to dust off the 4wd lever. It's been a few weeks.
Will let you know closer to the time.

I might suggest that you attend a C with B options trip first (as a new member) but if you feel that you are up for a B trip with a bit of road building and maybe a snatch or two we will get you up and down.
If it is you intention to come along on any SJC trip you will need rated recovery points front and rear and a snatch strap, 2 rated shackles and a UHF radio :)
Work has stuffed me now. Yeah the 31's just wont cut it!, saving for my FCII's , and getting my sye under way.

pretty much a definate now... unless something unexpected pops up.
Can I hitch a ride with someone? Please!
TJ won't be back on road by then, don't think KJ or XJ in current set up would be up to it.
You're welcome to my passenger seat Brad.

I can give you a lift out there and you're welcome to ride along if you want when we get there or hop in with Antz (it might be safer) ;)
Cheers
Steve
Consider the passenger seat booked then. I'll ride shotgun for the day, need to spend some time in an XJ learning how they go anyways.
I'll be running back and forth with the video camera as well.
You're welcome to my passenger seat Brad.
Thanks mate,. will make use of it during the day I am sure.

Spooky, just sent you a PM, 8:30?

Steve

The BP is on the start of Bells line of Road just after the Richmond Bridge.
Quickest way from Blacktown is down Richmond/Blacktown rd all the way to the end turn right onto castlereagh/bodsworth rd then left onto Kurrajong road which turns into bells line of road over bridge. Just follow the signs as if heading to Lithgow.BP is on LHS at start of Nth Richmond shopping centre.
looks like i am out, still aint got around to getting my heep fixed. Still got diff fluid leaking from my front axle. Will try and get tomorrow off and see if i can get it all fixed but i doubt it. I was really looking forward to this to :(
Might have to scrub me, looks like I'm going to have to work on Sun

Any news? How'd the trip go?

Great trip, Steve T got some minimal panel damage everyone else got through unscathed. My poor XJ was a little inadequate ;) Needed a winch from Mick to save time but in my defence I was the only one unlocked and other than Steve T the only one running 31's.
Tooks us an hour or so to get down to the river and another 1.5 roughly to get back up again. There were a couple of slips on the rocks coming up with some TJ's in some odd positions with a fair bit of raod building and guidance needed. All up a great day and a fun trip well organised by Jumbo.
I didn't take many pics but here's a few:-
