TRIP POSTPONED DUE TO FIRES!!

Lets welcome in 2020 with a trip we can all participate in.

Caves to Caves trip covers all the back trails between Jenolan and Wombeyan caves.

Starting at Hartley Historic Village we follow the road into Jenolan Caves, passing through and out the other side before turning right towards Kanangra Walls. Then we venture through Dingo Dell and continue to head south until we get to Wombeyan Caves Campground. The road out from here to the main highway near Mittagong is long and twisty, but has great views of the surrounding countryside.

Expect to finish late afternoon, with home time possibly in the early evening.

If anyone has suggestions for places to stop at along the way etc, please feel free to let me know.

Hi Ben,

Unfortunately we won't be able to make this trip.
We have done this quite a few times in the past.
If your looking for a few places to stop for a look we try to make it to MT Werong Hut for our lunch stop then head down to Ruby Creek Mine. Mine Coordinates -34.081129, 149.946597There is a lookout at the mine as well as some ruins.
The turn off to the mine is about 300mtrs on the left past the turn off you will take onto Range Fire trail.

Enjoy the trip

Hi Ben, you’ve put down that I’m driving a JK, I think I’ll be in the XJ for this trip and I’ll let the other half drive (get some learner hours up) also I don’t own a JK, only TJ and XJ

Please note that I am keeping an eye on the bush fire situation in the area this trip will be travelling.

From what I can see a good part of the trail has already been burnt out, and is still at risk of fires.

I will postpone the trip if needed based on conditions closer to the date.

Regards
Ben

Further to my above post, I note the Kanangra-Boyd and Mares National Parks are both closed.

From what I have been able to ascertain, the closures will continue through to the new year.

Even if they do open them, the risks of fallen/falling trees is high, and traversing fire ravaged bushland isn't desireable.

As a result, I have decided to postpone this trip for now and will assess when it may be appropriate to run this trip later in January.

I trust you all understand.

Regards
Ben Perfect.

Hi Ben,

Dissapointing but necessary - Safety first. I would love to do this treck, if at all possible please avoid rescheduling to Australia Day Long weekend as I'm away. If you plan it for then, then that's totally ok I will just attend the next one!

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Guys.

With ALL of the National Parks and State Forests closed due to the bush fires for the foreseeable future, I am not able to organise trips as we have no where to go in the Sydney area.

It is unknown when this will change.

Even when the fires are gone, the tracks need to then be cleared of debris, fallen trees etc.

Yes, this is frustrating as I am missing getting out in my Jeep.

Cheers Ben
