ZIG ZAG - NEWNES - C+ with B Grade Options

Hello fellow Jeepers!

Zig Zag special with a couple of tracks that may be new to some, with a higher technical level.


Where: Zig Zag - Newnes

Starting at the Zig Zag Railway station we will tackle Motorcross Hill, then Prado Run. This will be followed by a trail approaching Lost City from the south. Then we will have a play along some of the wombat holes before heading to a northern approach to Lost City. These are mostly technical tracks. Time permitting we can look at other options. Expect to finish mid to late afternoon.

Time: 8:30am for 9:00am - There is no fuel nearby, so ensure you fuel up at either Mt Victoria or Lithgow before you arrive. 9:00am departure.


Grade: C+ with B Grade options. This trip is suited for experienced drivers.


Requirements: Stock Wranglers OK and Grand Cherokees with a min 2" lift. There are sections where the brush is close but nothing like the Watagans.

All Terrain Tyres are a must and larger than stock recommended. BYO first aid, food and water.

Recovery points front and rear are mandatory. If you have recovery gear bring it, otherwise trip leader will step in if necessary. Expect to use your recovery gear and winches.

UHF Radio to keep in touch with your trail buddies.


This run is limited to: 14 vehicles.

Wow, what an awesome day to do a Recce for this trip!!

Dru and Kerry came along to help me assess the correct grading for these trails, as they haven't driven some of them before.

The trails we will be taking, in particular Prado Run and the southern approach to Lost City, are proper C+, if not C++ trails.

There are plenty of technical sections, with small steps, up and down, wombat holes, as well as a good number of off camber challenges. I wouldn't recommend new drivers attempt this run.

There is a lot of brush close to the trails, so expect them to contact your paint.

It is possible you could finish up with minor damage, not that I did today.


After taking a look at Pipeline and Moon Rock, we won't be attempting those as they have seriously deteriorated and are well into the B Grade territory now.


Please remember to fuel up before you arrive as there is nothing close at hand. Coming from Sydney, Mt Victoria is the closest on the way, otherwise Lithgow is the other option.


We had a lot of fun today, if the weather is the same next week, I expect it to be a fabulous day out.

Andrew, they are likely to be included in a B Grade trip at another time.

Just far to difficult for Jeeps like mine, and even on 35s, 4 inch lift and twin locked it would be a challenge.
