View Full Version : Swing Bridge 24-2-18
EDIT: Richard Henning has kindly offered to lead this trip - thanks Rich!
Scenic family day trip to Bowtells Swing Bridge via Jenolan Forest, also called 6 Foot Track.
No limit of numbers, we will make sure there are enough guides to bring everyone. There is a walk through to the swing bridge which is actually part of the famous 6 foot track. The creek is fine for a dip if it's hot. Bring swimmers.
This is an easy drive with lots of time for a picnic at Cox river bank and a bush walk to the Swing bridge, about a 1km walk, and a challenge to walk across it.
Meet: Hartley Court House (This is on Old Bathurst Road just slightly off Great Western Highway)
Time: 9:00am with 9:15am departure (If running late or no show please ring me Rich on 0400 513 630 (tel:0400 513 630))
Grade: D can potentially depend on weather in previous couple of days but track is suitable for stock vehicles. It can involve a couple of usually shallow river and creek crossings. Has some nice ruts!
Great for newcomers, stock vehicles, families, or if you want to show us your latest mods. Just a nice day out. There is lots of driving though, so be warned.
Fuel: Coming from Sydney, last servo is at Mt Victoria before Hartley. Be advised trek itself is ~60kms plus ~40kms on tarmac, Please fuel up before meeting the convoy.

We come out near Hampton, on Jenolan Caves road, not far from Lithgow. We'll aim to finish up there around 4 or 4.30 I reckon.

Looking good for this trip next Saturday. 15 vehicles so far, and conditions not too bad - bit of rain forecast for this coming week but nothing major. There is a total fire ban, but no other fire warnings for the six foot track.
It is the annual Lunar Festival at Scenic World, so might be extra traffic around. https://www.scenicworld.com.au/event/lunar-new-year-2018/

Trip notes
Swing bridge 24 February 2018
The family were really looking forward to this one. The day out to Bowtells swing bridge is always good.
We met in the village of Little Hartley around 9am, did some introductions and signing in. Headed off at 9.15, onto jenolan caves road. 14 Jeeps in total, and 34 keen jeepers in all.
After about 30 minutes we turned onto Black Range road, and aired down at the campsite just after the turn.
A really pleasant easy drive after that to the swing bridge parking area, encountering one fallen tree that we were able to drive over.
About three quarters of the group then made the hike to the swing bridge, man it was hot and humid. Picnic lunch and swimming in the Coxs river after that.
Left the parking area around 2.30, following Glen Chee road and Marsden Swamp road out. Some light showers along the way, just enough to dirty up the cars. Aired up where Marsden Swamp road meets jenolan caves road around 3.45 and made our farewells.
Great to meet all the jeepers and their families, and great to see new visitors too. No issues, other than we came across a lady walker whose walking partners were late to the parking area meeting point and She was a little distressed. We offered to drive her out, but she decided to stay and wait. There were other campers still there so we knew she wouldn’t be alone.
Swing bridge is an awesome family day out.
