Is that the Zig Zag Motel? If it is then maybe i'm in for that too. Cus its a long drive up there for just some 4 wheeling and it would be good to get out of the city for the night.
I'd like to come along as a visitor on the Zig Zag trip, other than this post & turning up do I need to do anything else.
CD :?

recovery gear (snatch straps, rated shackles as a minimum), ensure your rig has recovery points and a sense of humour, that's you not the jeep.
Maybe some warm clothes and any thing else you'd take out on a day trip such as food, drinks etc.
Yeah as Brad's said, snatch strap, shackles, UHF radio, tyre pressure guage and air compressor if you have one.
Looks like this will be a good trip, there's a decent number of people interested in coming along :)
I'll be up on the Sunday morning.
Might have a few visitors along (both fairly stock)

I'll be arriving at the ZigZag motel at about 7:30pm on Saturday night. Will make a booking on Monday morning for a room. Is there anyone else that has booked, or will be booking a room?
For those that are meeting us up there on Sunday morning, we'll be at the zigzag railway carpark at 9:30 and will be on UHF 15, as mobile reception is limited up there.

We'll I'm probably second home as I had to head off a little early to get back for an appointment. Anyway, first home would have been Rob with a lot more carnage than you'd think was possible from a 'C' Grade trip (which it certainly was dont get me wrong). Poor Rob managed to blow the front diff in the KJ and it also looke like an inner CV was buggered as well.
Anyway, I had a great day and will try and put some pics up later, must head out again now.
Cheers
Steve
Please no photos of me crying

No, I got home first...never made it past Medlow Bath. Stopped to fill up and the battery decided to dead cell itself. We finally got back and I spent part of the day phoning around in case it was a bad alternator and looking for a model specific low profile battery.
I now have a new Champion under the bonnet.
OUCH Rob! Hate to hear that!

Cheers
Steve

Well I'm looking forward to seeing Anns' pics. I'm sure she took heaps. I was also very impressed with the stock KJ that was there, it coped surprisingly well with some of the harder optional stuff.
Cheers
Steve
Yeah the guys in the stock KJ and the near stock TJ drove well all day 8)
It was a good day out, thanks to everyone who attended!
Shame there were a couple of breakages, but I guess that's 4WDing.
114 Pics are being uploaded to my site tonight, and the remaining 200 or so will be uploaded tomorrow morning. They're taking ages to download from my camera. Will cull out all the doubles and any blurry ones over the next couple of days once they're all up.

It's a pretty huge area. You'd be best off going with someone that knows the area to learn all the good spots, otherwise you could drive around all day and not find anything good.
Yesterday's trip was a lot of fun, so we'll try to organise another one up there in the next month or so.

So Antzs hub finally let go altogether, bugger.
Cheers
Steve
I like the second one Steve, shows your flex.
The hub that let go wasn't he one that wasn't working. His front right was the one that wasn't engaging from the start, it was his rear left that grenaded. So he had to drive home with his rear locker on.
edit: on second thought I don't like the second one because my Jeep looks like the flying nun in the background with those 37s on

So Antz carnaged AGAIN?
Steve F
08-05-06, 11:17 AM
Yep, front right hub just stopped working halfway through the trip, this was the one that died 7 days before and was replaced and it seems that the rear left did the big boom. So 3 hubs in 7 days, not good at all.
At least he could drive it home though unlike poor Rob. I was on the phone with him last night and it sounds like he may come out of it without too much expense (under $1000) but that all depends on the diagnosis once it's pulled down.
Cheers

NOT HAPPY JAN
So maybe i shouldnt get Warn hubs while fixing my axle?
Nick, the guy with the Range Rover yesterday, actually took freewheeling hubs off his vehicle because they were a weak point. He prefers direct drive flanges, if you've got a full floating axle, you just pull the axle out if something happens and drive it like that.
In saying that, I believe you can strenghten the Warn locking hub arrangement. Max has his beefed up I think.

AFAIK he didnt touch the hubs only the drive flanges for the rear well at least the prototypes on now Brad's TJ are drive flanges only
BTW the 5 on 5.5 dont seem to have the same problem and read the fine print on the warn warranty for the 5 on 4.5 kit and max tyre size seems to suggest this also
So who's doing the trip report?
Would be good to get it from someone new for a change, Hey Rob, you had drama's, why not right one for me?
Brad when i find out how much damage has been done i get back to you
Nice to see some pics of my Jeep off road. Great trip everyone. Bad luck for those that suffered carnage... just don't build Jeeps like those Landies!!
Thanx for all th trip details anonymous caller, will be going up there this saturdayand doing the same tracks.
