I had not wanted to talk about this until we had an answer, but our poor little JK has a dead engine. It's the 3.6 version which is meant to be the better of the engines they have used.

Turns out to be a stretched timing chain which has led to further problems. Stretched not broken, but must have slipped a cog or something.

Anyway, after plenty of to-and-fro FCA have accepted the claim and the engine is to be replaced. Big thumbs up to FCA I had been getting getting a bit nervous.

Sad news, but great news that FCA will fix it!!

I hope that they can expedite, and it will be fitted, bedded in and tested soon, so that you are happy to do the big drive to the Cape in four and a half months.

Best wishes!!

Wow, that's a bummer. So glad FCA came to the party for you.

Yep 10/10 for FCA. New clutch going in too. Hopefully not too long now.

New clutch too! [emoji106]

6 weeks is a long stretch, but you'll get it back in better shape than ever [emoji41]

That really is great news... FCA have really picked up the customer relations in recent times... After 2 years of being denied warranty on Dieselcons engine, they finally came to my party ... well done FCA

Great to hear Jose!
Nick they have sharpened the 6w - there was an engine available in Melbourne, we expect the JK back next week. :encouragement: The clutch is relates to the fleet service but is great news. (How is the trip going!)
Sam, no info other than timing chain and "there are too many faults in that engine we'd rather replace it". I've been promised a copy of the report when we collect it - I will pass it on when I get it. I suspect that perhaps the chain slipped a cog, not just got loose.

Thanks for the interest guys.

The trip has been incredible on so many levels!

We're in Julia Creek right now (tiny little place in QLD, heading for Townsville tomorrow) and it's been another fantastic night chatting with Aussie travelers from all over this great nation.

Looking forward to wheeling again when we get back.
