Hello,
Recently bought a 2002 TJ and had the shocks replaced. I was getting some serious death wobble at 100km/h but now thats worsened and happening at 80km/h. My mechanic's (who replaced the shocks) first suggestion was to change the tyres (apparently they had trouble balancing them), which his 'mate' could conveniently sell me for 800 dollars. I had a quick look at the common causes of DW, and found that my trackbar bushing had about 2-3mm of play in it when turning the wheel 10-2 a couple of times. This being my first car and not having many tools, I was wondering if you know of any front-end specialists or mechanics with wrangler experience in sydney who could further diagnose this and replace my bushing. I live not far from wooders but heard that he doesn't do servicing?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Marty

My first Jeep was a WG Grand Cherokee which I had bought standard and it had a horrendous death wobble when you touched the brakes at 80km/h. It was so bad you had to bring the car to a complete stop before proceeding again (which was not a lot of fun on the freeway). Anyway after scouring the forums and following suggestions to replace multiple steering parts, I ended up replacing the still good Pirelli street tyres with BFGoodrich Mud Terrains for wheeling. After I did that, low and behold, the death wobble had disappeared completely never to return whilst I owned it. If you can try and borrow another set of TJ rims with tyres off somebody who doesn't have a death wobble issue and try that, but do take it to one of the two places Dave mentioned, as they will find anything else that may be wrong with it. Being a TJ especially if it's been offroad, it's bound to have worn parts on it.
