Do you think a Renegade Trailhawk could have some fun out there, with a video crew etc ;)

Steve, do you think my jku will handle the grading of this trip. The last trip I did with Dru where your steering came adrift was a little difficult over that one step.

Hi Rob,
There is one short climb which some rigs may need to be winched or snatched up, mainly due to being a bit rutted by constant driving on. Have only been there twice myself so not all that familiar with all areas there. The track is approx. 12.2km's with 6 to 8 climbs or descents depending which way you are travelling of course but each has to done twice anyway. Harder than Mt. Airly but you can break on any grade track as I well know. I am hoping to do a mid-week day or evening run there before this run to get a better feeling for the track/climbs etc. As they say, your Jeep can do it, but are you ready for it...Lol....

Hi Steve,
I have not seen a Renegade Trailhawk at all off road so I could not make a reasonable comment either way about their off road ability but I did see the short video of one doing the Rubicon Trail when it was released.....

Apologies Steve, I'm already out. Apparently I have a horse racing day and charity auction at Rose Hill then...:grumpy:

Wheeny has changed a lot. You will have damage as all the chicken tracks are no longer chicken tracks. And the steps have all gotten bigger due to big trucks chopping up all the lines. One of the last sections in almost impassable unless you have big lift and big tyres and lockers. Good luck to you all.

Sounds like fun, I'm hoping it's not too bad as I'm planning on using this trip as a bit of a shake down for my new to me rig.

Steve, sorry can't join you on the reccie. Going on a sampler cruise of 4 days from11/8. Could do it the next week. Please let me know what condition the track is in and whether I'm likely to suffer any damages. Need to have my jeep good for the border trip coming up.

Cheers RobS

Hi Rob,

FYI from "Andys Rant" in the August Meeting Minutes "If you put your name down for a trip, please don't ask "will my car make it?" The trip leader puts all the details about the trip on the trip thread. If you ask "will my car make it?" and the trip leader says "yes" it opens them up to blame if you don't make it or your car is damaged. So trip leaders, don't say "yes", just describe the difficulty of the trip."

Steve has listed this trip as C+ to B+. By comparison, Dru lists Mt Airlie as a B. So it is up to you whether you go or not, or get to a 'decision point' that you aren't willing to risk going any further. See Nekkeds post above.

On a personal note, glad that you are keeping the jeep in good condition for Victoria. Last thing you want is the wheels falling off half way down (or up) a sand dune :)

Thanks Dave, As I did Mt Airie with Dru and suffered some minor damage per a slight oil leak from my rear diff. I should be able to handle this. Tyres are Ok except for a slow leak in one tyre, which will be fixed before next weekend.

Counting down the days for the border trip.

I did a run there this afternoon/evening................. The track runs for 12.2Km's each way. 5 Km's are "C" until you reach to decent/climbs. It would deteriorate quickly if there is any rain about. There are 8 climbs and 1 decent then reverse on the way out with some other drops and small ledges along the way.... The hardest two are towards the end of the track which require careful lines and some may need to be winched up them... Others need a little road building to climb up but damage is a real possibility due to the state of the track... The two hardest climbs are a "B+" with some of the other ones "B" due to steep ledges and rock's................ Rail protection is a must otherwise damage may occur to your side sills....... Belly skid plates would not go astray as well..............
On a totally different tack, on my way out, I caught up to 4wd ute... they stopped to say hello when I was airing up at the end and it turned out to be Jumbo, and old club member (D.K. has his old TJ now) and a young guy getting his hours up on his "L's" and it was Mick Collins son, Jeremy( crap spelling) the original "Mr. Jeep"...... Small world...............

Federals 35x12.5x15 on a bit of a budget atm. They seem to get fairly good reviews especially on lighter rigs. Time will tell I guess.

The sun will shine......................

It sure will.

The TJ (which the rest of my family has titled "Judith" for reasons that escape me) is all ready to go, I hope. Finished off a few last minute adjustments last night. LED tail lights, fixed the horn, made a mount to hold the disconnects, installed a fire extinguisher, checked wheel nuts and tyre pressures after getting new rubber (and surprise surprise, they were all over the place, took the back seat out, chucked in some gear and tools.

Looking forward to meeting you guys in the morning and the TJ's first shake down trip.

My number is 0431120218

It was a great day, shame you couldn't come with us Nick. Big thanks to Steve for arranging and leading the day and for teaching how to drive these things, they are very different to what I've been used to, you can take a very different line.

Here was the morning shot at Maccas

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j396/Rocket5555/Jeep%20TJ/8C0D5DB1-D7AA-4962-81D3-3A050BA6C351_zpsoprn2oum.jpg (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/Rocket5555/media/Jeep%20TJ/8C0D5DB1-D7AA-4962-81D3-3A050BA6C351_zpsoprn2oum.jpg.html)

We then drove to the track aired down and drove the track relatively easily, Steve got up and personal with his old friend from last week Mr Tree, but all was good in the end with no damage.

Heres the two rigs at the lookout

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j396/Rocket5555/Jeep%20TJ/FE7D69C4-F979-47B5-B70E-84A27B7D36AF_zpsm3toro4f.jpg (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/Rocket5555/media/Jeep%20TJ/FE7D69C4-F979-47B5-B70E-84A27B7D36AF_zpsm3toro4f.jpg.html)

and coming down one of the smaller steps on the way out

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j396/Rocket5555/Jeep%20TJ/90D9F09A-1463-4648-AE20-C55564FCCA5B_zpshdonqmsj.jpg (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/Rocket5555/media/Jeep%20TJ/90D9F09A-1463-4648-AE20-C55564FCCA5B_zpshdonqmsj.jpg.html)

Only down side being, on the way home I did a rear pinion bearing in, so vibrated my way home and my steering pump/box packed it in (haven't investigated which one yet), can't steer it under 1200-1300rpm, made it interesting turning right at lights a few times, so a couple of things to fix, but very happy with how my rig went off road for its first outing.
