Wheels & Tyres

Hello Fellow Jeep Lovers,
I am planing a project Jeep and the first is new wheels and tyres. I like big wheels, you know monster truck style... but... I still use my beast as a city run about. My questions are

1. What size wheels would be ideal for a city runabout/weekend warrior.
2. How big can I go on tyres but still be legal. I have no clearance issue as I'll be installing off-road mud guards.
3. Is there any particular order I should start on upgrades?

I have tried to attach before and after pics of my plan. Please feel free to add any details on making sure I do my upgrades properly and legal.

That's a big jump in changes from a TJ into a JK ;-)
Jokes aside, I guess you're asking what the best compromise is?

My 2c, If you re-gear, then most tyre sizes will not be an issue, plus an excuse to do lockers. But the larger you go, the more expensive the upkeep will be on tyre replacements etc.

Looks like you're already running 31x10.5? 33x12.5s with aftermarket flares will be a good middle road for not standing out too much, potential to get engineered and therefore kept legal, plus give you a nice stance.

Work out the final car you want... Lift, tyre size, lockers....... & so on.
then work backwards from there.
I would start with the lift.

On a TJ, I wouldn't go any bigger than a 35" tyre. After that start collecting spare diff parts as you'll be constantly breaking something lol. You'll definatley want to regear too. I have 33's on standard gearing and it's not ideal on the city streets. Another thing to bear in mind is you just can't add big tyres to a car with a standard suspension. As usual, when you mod one thing, you always have to go and mod other thing to make it all work. Biggest legal tyre I believe is 1" over standard for a total of 2" lift. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Anything after that legally requires an engineer's certificate.
