Hi Alva,

I'm looking for pair as well, and I think I'm just going to get a pair through gumtree. They should tide me over until I figure out a more permanently mounted solution.

So far my research is leading me to find whichever unit has the highest broadcasting power available (5 watts max), and hopefully 80 channels so they're a little future proof. I've also heard that Motorola, GME and Uniden are reputable brands, but my selection will be limited to Gumtree's offerings.

Cheers

Oricom is doing okay as well, and a bit cheaper than GME or Uniden. http://www.oricom.com.au/categories/oricom-uhf-cb-radios

One of the best in handhelds (imho) is ICOM. I've had one for years.

Prestige Communications is a good website to try! http://www.prestigecom.net.au/

Good luck :)

If they are just for convoys, and handhelds really only are even the 5w ones unless you plug them in to an external aerial, then don't get too hung up on wattage, 5W is obviously best but even 1w will work fine on club trips and when you need to be spotted or are spotting for someone. As Dave says, Prestige are well priced and quick to deliver. Look for something you can charge in the Jeep, maybe a twin pack so you have a spare or can talk to your driver/pasenger while you are out of the Jeep.

Cheers

New plug and play units are good too. They plug into your cigarette lighters and have a small magnetic antenna that can be attached to the roof or the bonnet. No cutting required and can be moved from car to car without much hassle. Not the most powerful antenna but better than the hand held units.... Cost around $250 mark.
