Hey, just found this forum today.... any space for a new KL trailkawk? :)

Look out in the new year for some trips that will be suitable for your Jeep. Normally you can attend a few trips as a visitor before joining but there are a few trips restricted to financial members only.

All booked in at Rydal, just bring along $10 cash (per vehicle) for the nights camping. For those that haven't been there before there are toilets and tap water and plenty of room. I'll put up more details on meeting time and where when it gets a little closer to the date.

We can still take more so if you want to come along and are a financial club member just let me know :)

I notice there are a few visitors that want to come along, because the trip is a Jambo reccie trip and we'll be discuss lots of Jambo issues around the campfire in the evening and at the lunch stops etc the trip is only open to financial members of SJC (check out the first post in the thread, mentions it in there). If anyone is a financial member and it says they are a visitor contact Greg D and he'll fix it up :) Or join up to the club and come along for what looks like a huge trip, should be a great weekend and well worth joining SJC for alone ;)

Hey Steve,
do we know if it is ok to camp there Friday night or is it just the one night ?

Steve F
12-01-15, 04:09 PM
Just got a reply and we are good for Friday night, for those camping Friday and Saturday just remember you will need $20 per vehicle, for those just camping on Saturday night $10 per vehicle. I'll collect the money on Saturday lunchtime so I can drop it in on our way back to camp on Saturday.

If you do go up on Friday evening make sure all the vehicles are kept off the concrete, especially any sewer pits etc. Also make sure you camp where we can fit everyone on the Saturday night (but not in the dog showground, small fenced off lawn/grass area behind the buildings)

With all the Jeeps we need a couple of exploration trips :) We really need to make the most of the amount of Jeeps up there :)

Maybe Spanish steps on Saturday, I have it mapped out, easy to find so can pass on directions. Of course Mount Airly would also be a good Saturday run.

I'm hoping to run along the river at Jenolan, some good crossings down there that I want to investigate some more. Also try going up the hill I went down last time at Mount Bindo :) Probably leave Lake Lyel/Mount Walker for Sunday as it's easy to get back to camp to pack up afterwards?

Kerry is going to hate it but we can definitely lead a run picking up the Spanish steps and bone baal. It's not training driving other than the climbs and descents... and of cause the steps. Someone else can lead the steps. ;-) I doubt very much anything we have found is new to SJC but we did uncover an interesting entry point and short climb that looked new from the 'wang up to, goodness, is it Black Fellows Hand? Or a trail that leads to the Hand anyway.

Immediately behind the Rydal show grounds is a short track to the river which we gave up on due to being solo and sensible. (It was pouring rain and getting dark on our return from the bone.) 15 mins drive from the camp grounds. And definitely something I expect to tick off this week end. It's a 20 min run out then return.

Guys, doing a few trails is cool, but it's meant to be a training weekend. So might be worth finding some spots with technical content to repeat a bit? I don't think we are far from Mani's last trip through the pipeline, big and little bob, and the wombat holes. A tough play is the power lines which is another one that we dropped when it was cats and dogs and we were solo. Looked slippy. Like really. And we might not be so keen if it's rainy. Did I mention "looked slippy"?

If we are just recce'ing I'd like Sunday to play closer to Bathurst and Orange via Capertee and the Turon. I have in mind going wider from the Turon than we did last time (cut by locked gates).

Sorry in advance for our enthusiasm. This stuff may be "old hat" but for a couple who haven't owned a 4wd for 25 years it's all new and exciting to us. :-)

Enthusiasm is always good, We have a lot of mapped track behind the showground and I am sure we can do some of them on Sunday,

In tearms of traning, the best way to learn is out on the trails being lead by people with experiance in leading and spotting the technical areas. (Thats the way I learnt)

most tracks around pipeline become slippry in the wet but powerlines is a good learing trail as it has a good range of chalanges from easy to hard.

I mapped out alot of the Baal Bone Gap, Turon River, Pinicals fire trail out to sunny corner for the last jambo so more than happy to show you the mapping points I have.

Hey Dru, check the first post I put up ;) This is not the training weekend, that will be posted up by Heidi or Brian. This is purely to get to know the area for those that don't and to reccie some tracks/get some familiarity with what's near by. It's also so we can sit around the camp fire and discuss Jambop on Saturday night :)

We'll do that track behind the show ground to the river on the night run, it was a popular track last time and is pretty straight forward, it'll be a simple loop out the back of the showground and back in the front (probably). On Saturday we'll probably need to split up into 3 or 4 groups so an ideas on locations you'd like to check out post them up as I'm sure others are interested as well and we can get a few like minded groups together to map and explore a little :)

Quick update

Meeting - 7:15am on Saturday morning at Richmond Maccas for a 7:30 departure and arrival at Rydal at 9:00am or meet at Rydal showground prior to 10:00am for trip departures.

Once at Rydal we will have around an hour to setup camp and then a quick discussion on trips we will run that day, so that's the time to speak up if you have a trip or PM me to let me know prior so I can put them in this thread. Ideally we would have 3 or 4 trips so groups are around 8 vehicles.

Saturday night we will have a night trip for those interested, just in the local area for an hour or so. Plenty of options and there are a few in the group that know the area so again we can split up if needed.

Sunday more trips, leaving the showground as required for the trip, this is the day to do the ones closer to the camp ground for those that need to come back to pack up camp (like me) again, if you have a trip you want to run, shoot me a PM.

What we want to get out of this - Lots of photos, video, notes, directions, track logs etc. Anything that may be pertinent to a Jambo trip (things to see, things that slow the trip up, number of Jeeps it's suitable for, specific obstacles that sort of thing) would be useful.

This is also a good time to discuss the site, the tracks, the facilities, anything Jambo :)

Cheers

Rydal is the main street and Market street ;) But yep, turn right into Market street (dirt I think) and the showground is at the end. I've marked a good spot to camp, behind the bar (picture in my first post)

I'll bring a chainsaw. What are the restrictions?

Don't take a chainsaw on trips, lots of restrictions. I have a bush saw in the jeep after the last trip ;)

Open fires are fine, just try and use existing fire pits or grass less areas. Don't chuck glass and cans in either as we need to leave it as we found it :)

Cool, I'll leave the chainsaw at home and bring the axe and some firewood :)

They'll be tons of wood at the showground so can probably leave the fire wood at home to if you arrive with some daylight

Steve,

My apologies on the chain saw suggestion! I meant for using at the Showground only!! Lots of dead fall and a few "widow-makers" hanging out of the surrounding trees.

I'll be out there tonight, is the pub worth visiting?

The food is good and the beer is cold, there's also a beer garden out the back if the night isn't too cold. Ask for a schooner of the Rydal special beer, it's on the house normally. It's on tap and Phil will probably offer it anyway if the pub is quiet.

Thanks Steve for arranging the weekend, it was a blast. If Charlotte and Tom could please attach a link to their vidéo showing my nephew Justin driving my jku with me as a passsenger, up that track where one or two wheels of the jku were in the air, I would appreciate it.

Photo #22 looks like a butt clenching moment if ever I saw one.
Is that drivers side front wheel still on the ground? If it is it's only just touching. I suspect it might not be though in which case that's 3 wheels in the air!
Either way I'll bet his seat covers are still wedged up where the sun don't shine.

Loved every minute of it, even the part where the JK was horizontal (still moving forward) and the roof racks touched mud! (Sorry for the scare Hayley!)

Brilliant weather, awesome trip leaders (thanks Steve Boyd and Andy), great company, a few more tracks ticked off the bucket list and a well used 'get out of jail free card' collected along the way... See you all soon!

If anyone reeealllyy wants the individual raw bits, i could upload it although with my slow internet connection it will take some time. The sound is also very "windy" so it's better with some background music. Enjoy.
