Hi Guys,
Stuart from ACT Jeep TrAction. I have booked Blue Range Hut for our exclusive use. Fees are $8 per person (over 15 years of age) per night, payable to myself as Treasurer (a receipt will be provided). ACTJT will pick up the $63 per night exclusive use fee and other fees. No fire wood will be available so please bring a bag or two. The campground can only accommodate 2-3 camper trailers in the car park, but has an abbundance of space for tents and swags.
I was going to run a BBQ, but I have discovered our club BBQ has gone AWOL, so perhaps we can do a camp oven cook off or something.
We will run a C/C- grade trip to Flea Creek-Webbs Ridge-McIntyres Hut and back out via Mt Coree.
I will also run a C+/B grade trip to Corin. Corin always has a good chance of bush pin striping, so if you are precious about you paint work, then you might want to give this one a miss.
We will also look at doing a night drive if people are interested, but I will wait to see who is interested and come up with something that is appropriately graded.
I will be in camp at 4pm on the Friday (I will be on UHF27), and look forward to seeing you all then.
Regards,
Stuart

On behalf of SJC many thanks to Stuart and his ACTJC colleagues for their efforts in planning this weekend. Would any members have charcol bar b que they could bring along, or do members wish to use their camp ovens?

No problem Jose, I'll catch you up on another trip. Stuart has advised me by email that he has been informed their BBQ packed it in, and he requesting their club purchase a new one.
What about the club BBQ??...........
If required I can make sure our bbq is available

Lets wait for confirmation whether ACTJT is going to purchase a new bbq before we offer to bring our. If Stuart (ACTJT) advise me they will not be purchasing one before the planned weekend then we will offer to bring our.
Hi we will be attending thanks. We where going to bring the camper
Sorry team, I'm out. Other family committments have arisen.

Thanks Guys,
I can confirm our club will unlikely have a BBQ prior to this event. I think we will be luck to have agreement before Xmas LOL.
ACTJT will be happy to do either a BBQ if someone is willing to transport one (I can supply a gas bottle to save transporting one from Sydney), otherwise we will be just as happy to do camp ovens :)

As ACTJT has confirmed they will not be able to purchase a new bbq before our planned camping weekend, can we use our club bbq? ACTJT offered to provide gas tanks.
How and when do we pay the entry fee?

I will email Stuart from ACTJT and have him put a thread to advice how and when to pay the camp site fees.
Please also see Stuart thread with the web link to find the camp site, and please note what channel he advised to contact him when arriving on Friday. Someone should tune their radio to channel 15 after arriving at the camp site goe those who may forget Stuart stated channel.
As the fires are burning up here in the Blue Mountains, I'm posing this whilst I look into options also - in the event of total fire ban - how does one cook a meal? I have a trangia burner that, even though it uses methylated spirits, would be worried to use it in the bush in a total fire ban situation - does anyone else have a way to cook up during a total fire ban?

Yes - have done a bit of research in the past for touring. In NSW;
NSW RURAL FIRE SERVICE Total Fire Ban Rules
During a Total Fire Ban no fire may be lit in the open and all Fire permits are suspended. This includes incinerators and barbecues which burn solid fuel, e.g. wood or charcoal.
Can I use an electric barbeque?
You can use an electric barbeque for cooking as long as it is under the direct control of a responsible adult, who is present at all times while it is operating, and no combustible material is allowed within two metres at any time it is operating.
Can I use a gas barbeque?
You can use a gas barbeque under the following conditions:
It is under the direct control of a responsible adult, present at all times while it is operating;
No combustible material is allowed within two metres at any time it is operating;
You have an immediate and continuous supply of water; and
The barbeque is within 20 metres of a permanent private dwelling such as a home
The barbeque is within a picnic area and the appliance is approved by Council, National Parks or State Forest
And in the ACT;
In particular, a gas or electric barbeque may be used under the following conditions:
The barbeque is under constant adult supervision and attendance;
The ground within three metres of the barbeque is cleared of all materials which could burn; and
There is a continuous supply of water that can be applied to the barbeque and the surrounding area.

Great info, I thank you! Will hopefully duck down to a local camping chain tomorrow to pick up one of their cheapy gas burners! Bit offputting re the being within 20 meters of a permanent dwelling & in a picnic area if camping out though...
*edit* just though that i'd mention that I'll be taking multiple litres of water with me (thanks Aldi!)

How and when do we pay the entry fee?
It can paid in cash on arrival and I will provide a receipt. This will reimburse ACTJT for the individual camp costs (the club will be writing a cheque to TAMS for the entire weekend which will include the camping fees). I can also post the clubs account details if people would prefer to transfer direct into the clubs account?
You can always plan for a cold dinner. We always carry a few can's of food and cold food alternatives in summer incase of a fire bans.

As far as i'm concerned - whatever is easiest for you! If you want pre-pay or on the day, just let me know!
Also, what are the rules re bringing mates to this? I have one mate that I'm bringing along in the JK but, was wondering if: would it be possible to bring more if the other peeps were driving a sedan ie. to carry more shit for us haha - the appropriate entry fees, etc would be paid, etc - but they would all come wheeling in my JK and leave the sedan parked @ the campsite? If this is possible - is a sedan (falcon / commodore) able to get to the site? thinking 1-2 extra people max in the sedan

Hi Dan, if your friends will be riding with you I don't see any problems with that. I don't know much about the camp location so I can't say whether your friend falcon is able to travel on the track to the camp site, however check the website Stuart has a link for in his earlier thread.

Thanks for organising all this.
Can I ask what areas/parks/reserves is the actual 4wding you suggest?

Hi guys,
Slight change of plans. I found out today that my Heep will not be mechanically ready, so I will now be leading the C grade trip in the wifes new WK2 :)
The B grade trip is now going to be run in the Brindies instead of Corin. Sorry to all those that wanted to go to Corin, but Paul (the other member) is not familiar with Corin and wants to stick to what he knows.
I will try and do some maps to upload, but I am not very good at these technical things, so it might take me a day or so to figure it out.
Looking forward to meeting up, only 11 sleeps to go:)

Falcon/commodore should be able to access just fine. The road to the camp is pretty well graded.

Steve, as I have not seen the site we're camping at I'm not sure what there. I'll sms Stuart to seek what is available and request he put a thread for everyone information.
If nothing is available I'll bring my camper where we can secure all items in the trailer compartment.

As much as it pains me to say it - I'm probably not going to make it now.
I have promised my wife I;d have some renovations (that I;ve been working on for nearly 4 years) finished before Xmas.
I trust me I'd much rather be on the trails than building a laundry from scratch.

Its at Granville. Problem is its not where we live.
This weekend is finishing the laundry floor (membrame etc) and tiling. Then fitting the bath, vanity & shower screens.

Unfortunately I am unable to attend, I have the same problem as Dave (i'm married) and also have a Xmas deadline. Rob If you're looking for work I've got heaps.
Ps if you still need bar-b-q just let me know.

Dave
Make sure the corners in the floor are fully sealed when doing the membrane. As a Building Inspector with Fair Trading I've mediated a complaint where water leaked from a pin hole in one corner. Are you doing the membrane and floor tiling this weekend or just the membrane? I don't live far from Granville if you like to have a chat at next week meeting regarding the fitting of the bath and showerscreen.
Wolfe
I have a talk with you at next week meeting.
Cheers Rob

31-10-13, 01:39 PM
Rob,
We've already started the membrane, this is an extra layer.
So I'm hopeful that if I knock it over early on Sat that I'll be into Tiling on Sunday.
But even then I prefer to do the floor first, then probably next weekend will do the walls (as I think that approach gives a better result when speed of the job isn't as important ;)). (As opposed to doing walls then floor).
Bath is a freestanding cast iron jobbie - so just need to line it up with the drainage - oh yeah and do another coat of the refreb paint before fitting. So I'm not really expecting any surprises.
The shower is mostly done . Commercial base has been in place for months I just need to buy & erect the screens themselves (once she decides once & for all what style ;)).
End of the day no matter what we do it will be a huge improvement over what was there - lino over rotten floor boards, heck not even hot water just an old cooper heater. And the Laudry was a concrete tub in the "bathroom".

We might be able to secure stuff in the hut, I cannot remember if it has locking slide bolts or not. I will bring a couple of padlocks to see if we can. My missuss is contemplating coming out for the day just to chill out, but she has not confirmed it yet. I will have my car out on site, so people can lock valuables in my car. The campground will be locked up and not a lot of people go out that way.
I believe Rob is bringing his camper, and I imagine he would be open to the idea of storing gear in that aswell.

I have been trying to do routing of the trips in oziandroid, but as I mentioned before, I am not so good at these techy thing. I have the maps (in oziexplorer format) of the areas we are traveling and I will provide these to Rob today to distribute to those people that want them (I can't even work out how to upload them to the form :hopelessness: ).
On OziAndroid, if you have Log Track To File ticked in your configuration/Track menu, you should be able to access your .plt files externally by using "My Files", then it's just a matter of copy and paste files. For example:
My Files, Oziexplorer,Data, choose file
it should look like this
/sdcard/OziExplorer/Data/TrackLog 2012-03-05.plt
or point it to there to upload.
hope this helps.

I havent driven the tracks with any mapping software to generate a plot file. I was trying the routing thing, but the whole thing became beyond my capabilities.
Anyway, I had a brainwave today. Here is where the maps can be downloaded at http://maps.festy.org/downloads/ozi/NSW/25k/

Hey Keith,
Blue range hut only has room for 2/3 campers max. I was trying to get access to the actual campgrounds for the camper trailers, but was not successful in that request, which means camper trailers are confined to car park. I couldn't find anything near by that could be booked in advance that could also accommodate camper trailers. Roof top tents obviously ok, and rear folds MIGHT be able to fit, but it would be tight and at your own risk of having to camp outside the grounds altogether and of the side of the track.

It was a great weekend where two good clubs came together in friendship to enjoy some great 4wd driving, we've looking at further outings together. Those who missed this weekend be sure to come along to future joint clubs outings.
Hey guys and girls, what a great weekend just like to say thank you to the ACT guys, we had a blast. To Brett, living the dream, a test track in his backyard!! Thank you. But a big thanks to the SJC guys and girls, you made a good weekend, great. Looking forward to our next outing.

What a fun weekend.
Drive it like you stole it indeed!
Thanks very much to the organisers and to the spotters.
I will upload my photos soon.
Cheers

Fantastic weekend away.
to Paul and Steve a massive thank you for being our guides and hosting the weekend. But more importantly for being top blokes with a great attitude to everything...
it it was great to catch up with the people from the SJC and spend some more time with them. We have a fantastic group of people that make wheeling and camping more enjoyable.
shout out and thank you to Brett for opening his doors to us and letting us bash around on his onsite test track. Very enjoyable.
cheers Alex.

Indeed it was a great weekend.
A big thank you to Paul,Stuart & ACT club who put on a great weekend and Bret at Jeep City for opening up his place to play on the test track
It was great to meet up and meet some of the ACT members, and cant wait to get them up here in our back yard
The tracks where really good and every where you looked there were more tracks to explore.
Thanks to every one involved from the navigators, spotters and recovering me from my uncomfortable cross up.
The night drive was just one of the highlights.
Thanks to all the SJC members who attended and made it a great weekend
Looking forward to all the pictures and videos
Cant wait for the next one
Thanks for a great weekend :) it was good to get out and put the Rubi through it's paces and do some 4wding which has been a while for us.
Izzy kept asking where her friends had gone after we left you guys in the morning on Sunday - she missed the jeeps LOL
Top spot and we will be back :)

Before I post the trip report can others attach parts where I missed. Eg Firstly, I arrived late on Friday night and everyone was in bed. Could someone fill in details about the meeting with our Canberra hosts and new friends; Secondly, I missed out on the night time drive Saturday night, what was the trip like, eta.

Re the initial arrival:
My mate (Blake) and I arrived at around 4:30pm or so expecting to see Steve & Dave E and others hoisting beers with the Canberra boys - that was not the case. We pulled up as it just started to drip a bit of rain onto us (after the GPS told us that we were driving through a field when going through the new section of Canberra) behind Pauls' green JK and hopped out - Paul said g'day and waved - Stuart said g'day and waved... with a carving knife... After a liberal dose of Chivas 12 year old & a few beers (with many laughs and a good chin wagging going on in the mean time) the rain started to ease up - I set up my tent under cover with the aid of Stuart - then, the rain stopped - Stu and I grabbed the tent and maneuvered it outside - after that - the sound of engines in the distance and the other Sydney fellas all rocked up - My doctor advised me to dose myself up on the old 12 year old blended to combat the cold weather so my memory of the rest of the night is a bit hazy after that sorry...
The night drive - as I was only a passenger that night (and following doctors order as I was not driving at all after we got back to camp) I will leave that up to the others to fill in
Last video - wasmucking around with the editing program this morning whilst working off my hangover ( a LOT of coffee) there's no sound as there was a lot of talking & wind noise (so chuck in the earphone or crank up some tunes to your taste) quality didnt turn out as great as I would have liked considering it was all recorded on an iphone 5 - but... "ya get that on the big jobs" (btw this has been uploading since about 11am today heh)
