Synthetic Winch Rope.

I just read an interesting article in the ARB magazine about synthetic rope, regarding maintenance, Warne, the winch manufacturing company recommend changing synthetic rope every twelve months due to UV exposure, mud and sand and fraying. Something I wouldn't have thought about, just wind it on and forget, but like snatch straps they only have a short life span. could get Expensive, wire is looking better all the time. Doggy Dave.

I still run wire, it's heavier and all that but for the amount of times I use it it isn't worth the swap.

I still run wire and would generally pick it over rope.

I just put on rope because I hated the ugly roller fair-leader sticking out so much. You can protect the rope by buying a protective sleeve that you put near the hook end. You'll need about 5m (check first) of it to cover the top layer thus protecting it from sun an exposure. Mine came with 2m but it's not enough to cover the whole layer. 5m is about $20..

ive found a 12000 lb Trex Winch on Ebay new for $269.00 with wire rope, and 12 mths warranty, the company selling them is near me at Seven hills, think I might have to buy it. then I will have to modify my bar, ect ect. Doggy Dave..:indecisiveness:

I also dislike the roller fairlead style so I run the hawes style of fairlead with my wire rope .

Are you serious??.........you actually wheel?? ... But Dave, does it not scratch the alloy and increase friction as the wire will curve as it winds on.

I'm the same Dave. I use it on mine with Factor 55 Prolink. The wire hawse fairlead is avlbl from Warn (http://www.quadratec.com/products/92118_02.htm).

Dunno to be honest. Steel is an alloy of sorts, so I daren't get too techie. Its more like a casted piggy iron. Hope this helps, clear as mud?:worked_till_5am:

I've used the winch twice and it's great, no fraying. The nubby Factor 55 thingy sticks out a wee bit. Gunna stick a front 2" hitch point for a crane, next to the winch.
