View Full Version : GPW build indecision

I have just acquired a GPW in about this condition:
2140

Now my inital plan was to build something like these:
214121422143

But now I've had a few friends & family suggest something like:
2144or 2145

I'm still pretty keen on the RatRod build, but thought I'd toss it out there for discussion - what do you think.....

So this was one of the purchases from the weekend!

I always think it's a sacrilege turning something as old as this into a ratrod, but then hotrods of any sort have never been my thing.

My vote would certainly be to restore it or do something like in the last picture where it's at least getting used for what it was intended......that's my 10c worth.

I'd ratrod it and daily drive it :) Probably go with a late model 4cyl turbo motor though so I could afford to daily drive it...........

Cheers

Don't forget I also have the CJ-6 which will have portals, V8 & 40" tyres.... So I don't really need a nuts offroader....

That was my thought too, no need for another offroader. You know you want to build the ratrod :) Build it light with a late model 4 cylinder turbo driveline and run it at the drags etc, cheap to run, fun to drive and something a bit different. Pretty easy build as well. I'd paint it with a camo flame job as well ;)

The other option is RatRod the Willys truck and Historic rego the GPW...... but really the condition of each is better suited to the other way around.

Whats even sadder is I've been reduced to driving the wifes car.....I feel like I hardly fit in the dang thing.

Ian,
Definately cool ride - but then every trail run it would be competing against the CJ (which will probably be built first).

You'll need airbags though.

Unfortunately the build thread for this will have to wait as I REALLY want to finish a few other things first.
