View Full Version : Sunday 26th August - Baal Bone & Pinnacles
__SORRY - I'M UNABLE TO LEAD THIS DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND MY CONTROL. I'M HAPPY TO ASSIST OTHERS WITH DETAILS
To ensure that Jambo Trips are well organised and to allow others who may be unsure but are willing to lead these trips.
I'd like to organise a trip firstly through Baal Bone and then onto the The Pinnacles which commences just north of where Ball Bone ends. Basically two tracks on one day.
This would be rated as moderate wheeling but lot's of fun and being picturesque, would appeal to all.
All type of Jeeps welcome. From our last experience, all Jeeps would be able to do this but would be better with moderate modification to suspension though.
Need the usual recovery points and recovery gear. There are several water crossings so a blind or tarp may be advisable depending on water levels.
This trip will proceed only if weather permitting,
Where -- Baal Bone, (The start is about 13 k from Lithgow. (about 14k from Rydal show ground), then onto The Pinnacles, which normally starts about 44k north of Lithgow at Capertee. (about 46k from Rydal show ground), Ends around 24k from Rydal) at Sunny corner, though we may back track and exist back at Capertee.
When -- Sunday, 26 august 2012,
Meet -- Meet -- 7.30am @ Richmond Macdonalds for 8am departure from Macdonalds Richmond
+++ 2ND MEETING Departure at 9:30AM MacDonalds LITHGOW (Where I'll meet with you, as I'm coming up from Great Western Highway side) +++
Grade -- B-
Requirements -- recovery points Front/Rear, recovery gear, UHF radio, food/drinks of choice. A camera would be good for reference.
This run is limited to 12 vehicles ..............
Post up.

Hi Steve,
I just paid my membership renewal :)
Id like to come along - been too long and just got some mods done. Meet at Lithgow 9am...
Cheers
Hi all, I'm feeling a little confused... Isn't B grade like really difficult?
Wish I had the weekend off :-/
Skizzi - You're right about B but this is a B-. Due to the many water crossings (about 10) and there is one long deep mud hole
Steven.Boyd
23-08-12, 08:42 AM
Is that the mud hole were we practice our snatching ?
Hey Steve,
put me down, will meet at Richmonds.
Just a thought for future meet ups - i reckon meeting at the Servo/Cafe at the Lake Lyall turnoff on the GWH is a bit easier as the Lithgow maccas always seems congested, especially with 10 jeeps rocking up ...just my 2 cents.
Or even the miners lantern, this way no s back tracking.
Is that the mud hole were we practice our snatching ?
Steven - Exactly - it was REAL LIFE PRACTICE.
Perhaps we can ll have a go this time.

Point taken Dave. I'll do that next time. Though that means some people who come via Bells Line would need to back track some what.
BTW I really wanted breakfast!!! haha
Look forward to seeing you Dave, been a while

Sorry - what you mean?
Are you coming along - to show me that your truck can truck?
Steve,
I'll join you, too. I'll see you at Richmond.
Sorry - I will withdraw & join Hunno on-site. (I had delayed registering until I thought there was no working bee onsite, but now that this has been posted by Hunno, I will attend it).

I am always keen to give it go
Not wanting to sound like an old woman trying to lecture people, BUT
the bog hole that now exists on the Baal Bone track exists because of 4wd drivers wanting to "give it a go". The track used to be perfectly ordinary once upon a time.
It might seem like fun to blokes new to the 4wd scene - but what do you think is going to happen when you take 20-30 jeeps through as will happen at the end of september?
Answer: another locked gate due to track destruction.
I think most people here know im not a killjoy - but my personal take is i will drive around deep bog holes if possible for several reasons:
(1) i want to be able to drive the track next year
(2) for me driving through bog holes gets old real quick
(3) collateral damage/ingress of muck to your axles/drive train
(4) ever heard of "tread lightly" ?
Due to circumstances beyond my Control.
I am unable to lead this trip. I happy to forward route details & assist some one else.
Sorry for the late post

I agree with you DK but there is a difference between give it a go with the right approach, if you fail you get snatched out then go around it to finding the biggest hole and having many attempts
Being new to 4wding dose not mean we do the wrong thing

Sure thing Steve - it wasnt meant to be a personal attack on you at all, just a timely observation - as we have less and less tracks to drive.
I just sometimes shake my head when i see *wits getting stuck and then having to skulldrag them out afterwards.

These trips are well worth the drive and a lot of fun. If no one else is willing to lead them I am keen to give it a go. BUT i would need some help as i will not have by co-driver with me
I dont mind chipping in, - i can show you the big hill near the pinnacle.
Steven.Boyd
23-08-12, 01:25 PM
The Pinnacle trip ? is that the one where we crossed the Turon River a lot ?
I don't know the areas of these trips very well but any trip leading experience i can get before jambo would be great.
Just a little nervous about getting lost, taking the wrong turn and navigating without my codriver
K put me down please. Made wheelin a priority for once ;)
Sorry to hear that you can't make it for Sunday Steve C. Now your WJ is up for sale.. Hopefully we'll see you for Jambo.
I've put my hand up to lead Jambo trips, so if you wouldnt mind passing some rte notes/plt for Sunday., I'll double up with Kiwi Steve with guidance from DK. .
Is this trip still on? Have you got the details Steve? (Kiwi dude) ..
Steven.Boyd
24-08-12, 07:37 PM

I have been in contact with a few people and I suggest we all meet at Richmond and i can lead the trip up to Baal Bone Cap.

Still the same meeting time. and we will be leaving Richmond 8am Sharp
Any questions feel free to give me a call

Please Note For those wishing to meet at Lithgow McDonalds.

Just an observation/suggestion.
It's great to see people willing to turn up to the trips in the area, but as a suggestion weith only a few weeks of reccy time left before the jamboree, wouldn't it make better use of our time to break into smaller groups to cover more tracks & to practice trip leading etc???
Steven.Boyd
26-08-12, 10:26 PM
