Gibraltar rocks - sunday 24 june 2012

As my last planned track for the upcoming Jamboree. I'd like to organise a trip through the Gibraltar Rocks Area just south of Lithgow.

I have not done this trip and not sure if any one else has, but it's basically a test to see if it would be a viable trip to run and to enable me/us to judge the standard and appeal of this area.

From what I have read it would be advisable if you had good traction tyres and moderate lift. It will be imperative that you have the proper recovery points and recovery gear. It has some steep rutted sections, so more suitable for those with confidence in their trucks and selves.

This trip will proceed only if weather permitting. It is a DRY weather track only but there are simpler alterative routes,

Where -- Gibraltar Rocks. The start is about 26k south of Lithgow (about 23k from Rydal show ground), Ends around 34k from Lithgow (36k from Rydal)

When -- Sunday, 24 June 2012, 7.30am for 8am departure

Meet -- Meet -- Richmond Macdonalds


Grade -- "moderate"


Requirements -- recovery points Front/Rear, recovery gear, UHF radio, food/drinks of choice. A camera would be good for reference.

This run is limited to ++++++NO LIMIT +++++vehicles including me..............

As mentioned this is a recce so expect the unexpected, so this will include some exploration of the area to establish suitability and to have a document ready trip for Jamboree

Can I put my name down for this as well please? It'll be my first time out with the SJC for a while and my first time as a paid member. Got a JKU CRD with a 2.5" lift & 33" AT's. It'll be my first proper chance to try out the new suspension with the front sway bar discos as well so looking forward to it.

None from me, I drove there, found a power steeering hose leak, headed back to the servo and filled it up and headed home. Do have a pic showing -1c on the temp gauage on the way out there this morning though :)

Back home and the feet have thawed out. Thanks to SteveC for a great day out.

Early start and a cold one, standing round in Macca's car park when it was 0c seemed like a bit of a silly idea.

Had a nice run around an area I've never been before so well worth the trip out. Great to meet some more of the SJC members as well. The new suspension and tyres worked a treat and I was pleasantly surprised (actually amazed) when I managed to crawl through a couple of spots with minimal of fuss when I fully expected to be getting snatched out. Was almost an anti-climax, but in a good way!

Firstly great photos Paul, keep them coming.

A very enjoyable day and it was a pleasure to lead this trip with an excellent bunch of people. Really interesting, though muddies would be helpful but in saying that we managed to skirt around a few "obstacles" rather than spend hours winching or snapping.

Thanks to Steve for a well run trip, im sure a great time was had by all. i had a ball, Thanks too for retrieving my number plate from the bog hole. Note to self, close the friggin window before playing in mud holes, i will be finding mud in my Jeep for weeks, frozen puddles is something i havnt seen in a very long time.
