Transmission Rebuild

Hi guys.

I got the dreaded P 1762 error with the check engine light coming on with my Grand Cherokee Limited 6 cyl WG 2001, 150,000 kms. Took it to the mechanics and when they dropped the gearbox pan they found 2 pieces of metal in the pan. Apparently they are part of the support of the clutch in the gearbox. they replaced the sensors and said I can drive it till the gb gives up and that it will cost $2500 upwards to rebuild/repair. OMG
Does this price seem right to you?

If I can't rely on it I can’t go out bush in the middle of nowhere and have it die on me. Anyone have any suggestions on where is the best place to get this done at the most reasonable price?
