TJ broken shock mount

G'day All,

The rear shock mount broke on my TJ while checking out some tracks in the local forest(some challenging tracks there) the mount broke about 30mm from where it is welded to the diff housing, on closer inspection of the broken piece, it looks as though it had been cracked for some time and finally let go(you could see the fresh break in the steel).

I have already welded it back on just by butting the pieces together and welding,I also plan to weld some sort of bracing as well to hopefully avoid it breaking again.

Is this a common problem, or am I just unlucky.

Pretty common to hit them on everything (and thus cause damage) just because they hang so low. Here is a permanent fix http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/rearshock/rearshock-1.htm

thanks for the link on fixing my problem, I think this is a bit drastic fo my liking, no doubt it works, but I don't think I will be doing that.
