Does any one know what AMPs a winch can draw or normally draws? I know that the supplied cables are gauge 2, thus rated at 225amp, so I assume that's the maximum.

I ask as I want to install a kill switch for my winch and want to ensure I get one that's rated enough.
Thanks guys.

check the winch.. should say the max current draw on it.... each winch will be different.

Unfortunately mine does not.

Steve,
The Rugged Ridge Winch Manual gives the following (for both the 8500 and the 10500)

755

I'm not sure that is readable, but it increases from 70 Amps at no load, 10 amps at 2000 lbs, 260 amps at 4000 lbs, 335 amps at 6000 lbs, 410 amps at 8000 lbs and 425 at 10000lbs.

Thanks for your replies
I'm a bit confused as you say, it can draw up to 425amp at full load yet the cables are rated to just 225amp. ??? Can someone explain that?

the cables will get a bit hot.....but you won't be running the winch at full load for extended periods of time.
