29 Attendees so far !!! Looks like we'll be splitting into groups and meeting up at lunch time as there is just not that much room to park all these Jeeps at the glowworm tunnel or the Lost city. I'll also add a third sight to see so most likely looking at groups of ten with 3 main sights.

5 is bad luck on Jeep trips so we skip it..... ;) Or because the template doesn't have 5. in it ;) Time for me to go fix it.

I don't know if anyone has thought of it but we are going to have one definite problem on this trip. The areas available to park close to both the Lost City and the Glow Worm Tunnels are very small and only have room for roughly 12 cars, maybe less and the tracks leading to both these areas are not very wide and offer very little room to park either. You have to assume that there will be other people already parked in these areas too further limiting the available places to park.
With over 30 cars coming I think that we are going to give some thought to not only where we will park but how we will organise the group so that it does not get strung out over too large an area forcing some people from our group to walk for miles to catch up with the others and causing the convoy to break up into smaller groups which may get lost.
One solution could be that the convoy could stop briefly as each one of our cars finds a park to pick up the occupants and ferry them to the sites, reversing the procedure as we leave so that everyone gets to the sites with the minimum of effort. We don't have to do it this way, it is just an idea but we will definitely need to have some strategy in place to solve this potential problem that could potentially ruin the day for some people.
Steve F
30-05-11, 08:47 PM
We aren't going to all the areas as one group (read back through the thread, there was a call for more trip leaders and tails to help with this ;) ), most likely as three groups and meeting for lunch, we've also discussed buddying up, especially at the glow worm tunnels where there is a large parking area about 1km from the main parking area. Basically, don't worry its all under control :)
The lost city is the tricky one, and again people could buddy up a little way out from the parking but we can park in front of each other there etc.

I must admit that I do get a bit lazy and only read the most recent posts in a thread most of the time. I must say though that having to split up the group is a bit of a shame. I was looking forward to freaking out the all the Toyotas by rolling through the area in one huge Jeep convoy!
If you still need someone to help out by leading a group I'd be happy to volunteer. I have recorded all my trips to the area on my GPS and have both the car parks to the Lost City and the Tunnels as well as most of the other places we have stopped at during the SJC trips that I have done up there saved as waypoints. My GPS is a Garmin loaded with the latest Aust Toppo maps and it includes all the tracks in this area pretty accurately so I could easily lead a group to most of the places where we might want to meet.
Steve F
30-05-11, 10:30 PM
Final decisions will be made on the day in regards to numbers etc but like you say almost 40 vehicles is just too much for these sights as much as it would be nice to all go together. Be great to have another trip leader or tail so I'll add you to the list. In a week or two I'll send around trip notes and details. If we all meet up for lunch that would be pretty cool anyway :)
Cheers
Steve
There is plenty of area for lunch at the top of the "Pipe Line" track with an easy access road which runs down a long gentle slope. Could be a good pic or two taken there............ But undoubtably, someone will drive up "Pipe Line" depending on lunch........... We can still convoy together until the seperation points reached for each group, then meet up again along the line.............

Still no sign of the new GC and the TJ doesn't fit a baby capsule so were going to have to pull out :( Was hoping this would have been it's first run on some dirt :)
Sorry, another drop out.
My passengers were not happy with the idea of getting on the road at 6.00 am, so are not coming. Also having a bit of trouble with my transmission interlink. Booked for a replacement on the 27th.
Sorry,

You need a compaq safe n sound it fits behind the passenger seat in the reverse position.
I finally got the rollcage installed last week so unfortunately the TJ is strictly a 2 seater now. Doesn't seam to matter anyway as she already wants to drive :D

BUDDY UP
Just a reminder that parking is going to be at a premium at the Glow worm tunnels and the Lost City. We will need to buddy up for the last KM or so to both of these locations if we want to be able to park. We'll also need to bunch up and double park. So, if you are travelling alone or are a couple please consider jumping in another Jeep at the Buddy up locations :) It will be much easier for everyone and your Jeep wont be far away.
Also, bring a torch if you want to go in the Glow worm tunnels, they have a small stream in them and you'll end up with wet feet without the torch :)
Cheers
