View Full Version : Jeep.... Not
So, I'm in Sth Korea at the moment and have seen a couple of Jeeps, nothing flash, but they're still Jeeps.
2 JK Wranglers ( 2 door sports & an Unlimited Rubicon), as well as an XJ Cherokee & a few others.
But today on the way to a section of the DMZ, I came across this 'wanna be'.
It's actually a Ssanyong Kurando.
You may have seen a couple in Aus.

I would say somewhere deep down in its roots there is still a bit of Jeep DNA. After the war Jeep was the most suitable vehicle for the world. It was tough, cheap to make and proven in war. Many countries produced Jeeps under licence from Jeep and when the contracts ran out they decided to continue developing the platform in their own ways. Most famous descendants of the Jeep DNA are Land rovers and Toyota Landcruiser. Ssangyong was one of the many. So some where they have a common ancestor with Jeep...

In many countries any vehicle in 4X4 or SUV category is called a Jeep. My Indian licence said "Car/Jeep Only" in the vehicle category section.....
and they say imitation is the best form of flattery.....

Sorry guys but in my book Jeep hasn't made vehicles since 1986.
Finally found a CJ based Korando.
Rare over here it would now seem.
And while it may not look like much, it's actually in great shape.
I've seen plenty of much newer vehicles with rust hole around the wheel arches etc, that I could fit my hand into, due to the roads being salted in winter.
