new to 4x4

hey guys how are ya?
my name's Nik, im a little new to the whole 4x4 scene, i mean i have always owned one but never took it off road, i recently bought a wrangler and want to take it up to zig zag.
it has been lifted and has mud tyres but still am not sure what other essentials i will need to go, also is the fact that the car is manual gonna be an issue or will it be ok?

There's plenty of places your Wrangler will go (which year did you buy, new?) with just a lift and muddies and the fact that its a manual doesn't really matter, I personally prefer an auto off road but plenty prefer a manual. The only real tings you'll need is some recovery points front and rear and some recovery gear, a UHF radio is also handy. The rest can be left until you've taken the Jeep offroad a few times and you get comfortable with it and work out what you want to do with it :)

If you're keen look in the trips section and tag along on a run, much safer and you'll learn a lot about your Jeep.

Excellent, its a 96 tj sport steve and yeah I would love to tag along on a trip although, I don't believe I have recovery points (not. Sure why) where would I have to go to get them fitted? Mechanic? Body shop?

I'm not a TJ guy but you should be able to bolt hooks straight on to the front, on top of the bar and if you have a towbar you're set for the rear.

Auto or manual doesn't really matter.
Also the recovery gear it needs to be made & rated for Recoveries. Give Wooders Garage a call their Jeep Specialist http://www.wooders.com.au only Located at Hornsby too. Gett the right gear the first time & save yourself time & money.

Just make sure you you also add the nuts that come with the recovery hook kit.

Hey Mate

Welcome to the forum.

I started off with a bone stock Jeep 2 years ago on Valentine's Day now it has 2 inch lift, Sway bar disconnects, Rock sliders, 33 muddies, strong recovery points front and rear, Driving lights, etc.....

Had u posted a couple of days ago U could have joined me and a couple of guys from work at Zig Zag. We were there yesterday weather was excellent and we saw only 2 other cars all day. My Jeep has similiar mods as your Jeep and thats all u need for most C/C+ trips, if u get stuck the members will recover you provided u have decent recovery points. We never leave a man behind even if we have to miss christmas lunch... :-) ... Steve F, Steve T, Wolfe and many other club members are a proof of that. Come along to the next club meet and we will have a yarn and tell you the stories there (Some true some not :-) ).

BTW some areas of Zig Zag are moving into more B grade territory doe to the erosion caused by the recent rains, a couple of climbs are virtually unclimbable without 35s and lockers..... So always travel with at least one other car and have recovery gear handy, u never know when u need it.....
