Hey all. New to UHF radios and have one of those tiny gme tx3340 radios. I have to buy an antena now so the question is are there special types and does length matter. I'll be mounting it on the front bar. Also do you have any recomendations.

Cheers

I have a RFI CD900, they get good reviews and are strong and not too big. This is a 6.5db antenna so it gives reasonable distance but is also reasonable in hilly terrain, the lower the db the better in hills but less range the higher the db the longer the range on the flat, they typically range from 3db to 9db. It all comes down to the terrain you drive.

There are some units I believe that have interchangeable whip aerials so you can have short or short - dependant on terrain etc. There are even some now that fold down so you can enter car parks or if there are low hung trees
I have a GME ae4018k1 which allows it to be partially dismantled and it has been very resiliant to being banged around
