Took it out for a quick spin to monkey gum trail, but this tome from southern end off turpentine rd. Didn't travel to far as I was just one lonely jeep. Purpose of trip was to test new lift. I told ARB that with lift i wanted to extend the swayarm link but they said no need. I heard CraigB did substantial damaged to his steering so I needed to ensure things would be ok before next weekend (killingsworth loop). Felt pretty good, however didn't want to flex to much as the sway arm link looked a bit to close to doubling over.

Jeep has nominal 2" lift, and electronic disconnects

The sway bar on a JK should be parallel to the chassis when the car is on level ground although a 5 degree angle either up or down from that position is acceptable.

Whoever the idiot was at ARB that said that you don't need extended sway bar links either doesn't know what the f**k he is talking about or just doesn't give a shit. Probably both but that isn’t too surprising. It is an unfortunate and sad testament to the 4WD industry in general that we regularly get crap advice like that from 4WD equipment installers that claim to be 4WD experts. Macquarie 4WD is supopsed to have a good reputation but they installed a 3.5 inch lift in my car without bothering to include not only extended sway bar links but extended bump stops as well and unbelievably not even extended brake lines. When I queried them about it after a club member pointed it out to me they simply said they didn’t think it was necessary. More like they just didn’t think at all. But they are the experts and I'm just another dumb arsed customer and a Jeep owner as well. No one in the industry seems to give a shit about Jeep other than the specialist Jeep suppliers.

I’ll be at Killingsworth next weekend, I’ll show you how I’ve setup my rig then if you like. I have a set of adjustable Rubicon Express sway bar links that I replaced on my JK. I don't want them and I'd happily let you have them if you want. Call me through the week, I might be able to get them to you so you can fit them before next weekend.

If you are using ARB Wollongong then I’d guess that you are from the south side like me. I live near Sutherland so if you like we could meet up for the drive up north to Berowra too.

All respect to ARB-WHOEVER said "not need extend swaybar link".

BUT - That is absolute uninformed CRAP. You must. it wont break this week, nor next month, but it WILL break after the lift....and will do so by wearing, due to metal-fatigue. And will do so after a period of time when you will have NO recourse through Warranty and absolutely NONE through dealership.

Look, I have been through this extensively with Jeep and Chrysler Australia...I rang and spoke with ARB. I will say this flat out with no compunction as I have before:

Whoever tells you that you dont need to extend the linkages is not only utterly ignorant of the consequences, but also does not deserve YOUR money.

Take me to task. Or have at least a spare $4500 in your wallet.

Try Lake Lyel camping grounds - has toilets & showers(20c per 2-3mins). Thinking of taking my 4y girl on her 1st camping trip there the weekend of Rydal Show 5/6 Feb. Not sure if I'm even taking the 4wd but just thought I could start her out easy & go from there. there is a camping fee of about $10 a night.

Had a play at yalwal on Sunday along monkey gum and mintbush trails had a great time. Only problem was on my way home stopped in a Kiama for an ice-cream and my jeep didn't won't to restart. Could smell like an electrical burning smell from near the battery. Called jeep assist and they came but could not find the fault hence it was towed away.....
Not a happy ending to a great day.

Finally got an answer.. Some how I burnt the starter motor. Looks like solenoid stuck on and cooked starter motor and wiring. Maybe it was when I got stuck in a deep mud pit and had to winch myself out. Winch work well..LOL. .they found mud around starter motor so I guess it was the cause. Should not have happened. Will be repair under warranty which is good but I'm jeepless for another 8 days. Motor coming from Singapore. Bugger
Once I get it back will check another track in yalwal and then will post a trip for early April.

Dieselcon
18-10-11, 06:26 PM
Tyres only just touch the plastic lining on the rear. Need to add a 1 inch coil spacer in the front and sort out the elec. disconnect . Tyres have given me a 30-40 mm lift. And tyres are inside the flares. But all ok so far

Electrical issues.... Spoilt our trip to Stockton beach. Tynans Wollongong have no idea what is the cause. They sent a report to head office and hopefully will get a response back tomorrow with issue.
What shocked me was a comment from The mechanic " it looks like you use it 4wding.......Regards the electric swaybar, its been through water!!!!!!".. I was shocked... Really shocked. I told them yes it rained the other day. The whole car got wet....am I being un reasonable to expect a different response. I bought a 4wd to use as a 4wd

Very annoyed. Can some one recommend me another jeep service department that deals with used 4wd's south Sydney'ish. Will try suttons in zetland (bought the car there)
Cheers

My mates JK dropped Uni Joint caps on the front axles with 6000 Ks on the clock and the dealers first question was do you take it off road..... No the front axle was put in there so we can drive it front wheel drive incase we lose the rear drive shaft.........

Hi Jose,

Not sure about dealers in south Sydney but SVM, either in Chatswood (now technically a Volvo dealership) or Mosman (where the Jeep franchise went after Chatswood) are both good. They have good customer service departments and know their stuff.

I personally wouldn't trust Tynan Wollongong to change a light bulb. I bought my car from them and had no end of trouble with them. Customer service was lousy and Jeep/Chrysler product knowledge was none existent. Some of the rubbish they told me about the Wrangler spec's were comical. I wouldn't ever go back to them. I'm surprised they even recognised your car as a Jeep (they must have been having a good day!).

Paul

Thanks Paul.
Agree, jeep knowledge is none existent. Will keep mosman in mind for future visits

The dealer at Chatswood (in reality Artarmon) is where I have taken my jeep off & on for 8 years) when specialised things come up. they are very good with their service and explain most things clearly. They even give you an upfront estimate (well on most things anyway).
But don't expect cheap part prices!!

I have found a USA Mopar dealer who will ship Jeep OEM items at incredibly cheap prices. most are 1/4 of the RRP here. That's right 1/4! shipped

Paul-JK
02-11-11, 08:29 PM
The Chatswood operation is now Volvo but I gather they do still service Jeeps (I think Hunty takes his there) but the Jeep/Chrysler franchise moved to Mosman. The Guys they had in Chatswood were very good and I think most of them are still there (rather than moving to Mosman with the franchise). The guys in Mosman also seem to know there stuff though and have helped me out a couple of times.

Yeh, I said they were good. I didn't say they were cheap! They've recently refurbished the showroom section of the Mosman dealership and I think I've paid for half of the refurbishment cost over my last 2 or 3 services!

Well... Finally got a response back from tynans. The electric swaybar will be replaced again under warranty. They believe all the other errors are being caused by voltage drops due to the swaybar fault.
Interesting. Now the waiting game for the swaybar motor....
Have purchased aev procal, evo manual disconnect. And once I've got the new motor I will install it and save the new motor. (your welcome Chrysler)

Need to add that their professionalism had improved from the week before.

Jeeps been parked for 5hrs and went to jump in and bells ringing again and wouldnt start. This time I have a HOTOIL word on the dash.... I guess this was the issue I've had. Hopefully it's a faulty sensor only. Bugger hope it's sorted before Yalwal otherwise will be hitching a ride with someone. 1101

Tynan's??.................. How did they diaganose that problem??--- They have their scan tool only and "few" "Donor" cars to strip and replace parts with until they "find" the fault........ That is how they workout your fault and make you pay an arm and a leg for poor service........................

Can be a real eye opener sometimes when you find out the truth of how thing's are done even there...............
P.S. Not bagging the mechanic's whom work there, just what they have to work with/without there.........................

Dieselcon
07-12-11, 12:36 PM
Well havent got confirmation what caused the limp mode but so far all is good.
She's in getting 1" terraflex spacers in the front and also EVO HD swaybar links added swell.
With the procal have recalibrated the speedo to match the 34" bighorns. Prior to calibration I was reading 15.5L/km....now it's reading 13.5.city driving.
Have also disabled the electronic swaybar with the procal and instAlled the manual EVO switch. New motor is safely stored in shed....:) ( not for a rainy day) lol

Also installing driving lights and rock crawling lights... Santas come early..;)

This weekend off with the boys to play....Yippee.

Can I borrow your procal to do mine

SKIZZI
07-12-11, 03:36 PM
Unfortunatley eav have thought of this already and for you to use your procal on another car it has to be restored first and you will lose any settings you have changed on the original car

Sorry dave..The smart people who made the unit have designed it as a one vehicle only control module. It stores the vin number and hence is only good for my jeep. It can be used on other jeeps but means I have to restore mine back to standard. Give Vic from SBRoffroad a call or similar dbor.etc.

Bigger lift was attempted last weekend..... ARB 2" lift to the 4.5" Skizzi Teraflex lift.

9 hrs of Hard work.... but with huge rewards......:)

Step1
Find a Mate that has a real car hoist in his backyard..lol......(and i did)
2436

Step 2
Undo Tie rod /drag link install drag link flip and pan-hard bracket

2437

Reinstall with extended brake lines bracket, springs and Shock/relocation brackets, and observe the 7" of droop increase. Down travel was stopped due to the drive shaft hitting the the transmission bash plate...(note to self--- modify bash plate for more droop, Also need longer brake line)

2438

The result of the Currie Draglink flip and Panhard bracket
(note to self--- Wheel spacer required to clear tie-rod or require after market wheels)
2439

Rear pan-hard Bracket, Shock relocation bracket and Sway-bar drop bracket

This is the final STANCE....Love it.. :)
2441

PS...Upgrade NOT COMPLETE :(
Adjustable Lower Control Arms, Longer brake lines, Wheel spacers, bash plate modification
Hopefully I will get it done this Weekend...Will be an awesome fathers day..lol

(Due to caster being less positive hence the need for adjustable LCA- the steering is very awkward/SCARY, so limited to ~70km/h)

Oh yeh, I'll bet that got the pucker factor going! What took longer, the heart rate to come back down afterwards or retrieving the seat covers from their new home up where the sun don't shine?

Bet you were glad you didn't have the hard top on. The extra weight up top might have changed the outcome.
