View Full Version : Backspacing and track width - something to worry about for enginering?
Here's the problem, I want to stick a set of 16 x 8 MOAB wheels on my KJ (original TJ Rubi wheels in the US, very rare over here) but they do fit the KJ except the backspace is 1/2" less. This means a 25mm increase in track width. Since I will be also putting on larger tyres I think this would fail engineering. Does anyone know what track width increase is allowed?
Cheers

Glen,
According to VSI-09 (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi09_rev4.pdf), a track width change of upto 25mm is allowed. So you'd probably be ok.
I say probably cause engineers can be a pretty pedantic bunch ;).

When I bought my wheels I did some research on this and also went with 1/2" less backspacing, be interesting to see how that goes with 35" tyres though ;)
Cheers
