Hi Guyz
I thought for the benefit of the Newby's and those of us who sometimes get a bit casual when performing a Snatch type recovery I would post up a video showing just how dangerous a snatch strap can be when something lets go!
the 2 videos below are of the same thing so if you just want to see the FAIL snatch its at 40sec in on pt 2 and 12:49min in on pt1.

The video is a little compile I did for the Sydney Jeep Club - SJC Highlights from Jambo

ALWAYS THINK SAFETY

Warning to all snatch strap users -
SNATCH STRAPS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS to the inexperienced user!
1. Make 100% sure your strap is in good condition - check every inch/mm.
2. Ensure your vehicle connection points are 100% up to the task.
3. Use multiple dampeners to slow down any potential missiles.
4. Ensure ALL bystanders and assistants are well out of the potential flight path of bull bars, tow hooks, tow balls/bars, Dbolts, shackles and snatch strap material.

Have Fun and keep safe whilst Wheelin

There are too many of these type of things happening. But this is certainly not like Chris' recovery at Jambo, where you had experienced people but a rated recovery point mount fail. Have to wonder how much experience these people have had. IMHO that ute was on the wrong angle to snatch out of that situation easily (the Toyota was just pulling it down into that erosion mound or step). The Toyota (not bar equipped) might have been using his tie down point to recover. It actually almost came out the first time they tried but the recovering vehicle stopped too soon. I think people get lazy. A few minutes working on that mound/dirt step with a shovel would have made it easy. And of course the Ute's tyres were questionable as well, and there was no dampener on the strap, etc, etc.

Cheers
