Hi guys,

This is my Xj: Custom long arm kit and cross member, Patrol diffs, front and rear air lockers, 4.6215 diff gears, High pinion rear diff centre, Terra II low tranfer case with reduction gears, HD SYE, injected gas, 5" front coils (with Acos adjustable upper mounts), two leaf packs (sleaved together) in the rear with 3" extended shackles. Sits about 10" above standard on 37" Goodyear MTR's. I'm hoping to get to the next meeting because i'd like to join the club.

Nick.

OMG, XJ's bigger than mine not allowed!!!

kidding

Looking forward to meeting you Nick, good to keep the old schook XJ population up there, we seem to be few and far between these days with all these JK types hanging around!

Actually, Nick, are they the new kevlar MTR's or the older style ones?

I'd be interested to have a look at it :) I'm on 5.5" of lift and 32's at the moment but have a D44 waiting to go in and regearing etc and am thinking anything from 33-37's :) No plans to go patrol diffs though but always interested in what others do.

Cheers
Steve

Is anyone going to Tuff trucks? Would be good to catch up there before the next meeting. Jaffas, they're the old style ones! this is my second set of 37" MTR's on the Xj and this set has 30,000 on them, so a while before I need newies.

love the front spring popping out in the pic :P

Hybridxj

Thanks mate, I've fixed that now by making up an extended upper bump stop. The springs stay in place now at full extension.

Welcome Nick, good to see you on the SJC's forum, showing off your XJ, LOL. When will you come out for a wheel with us?

As allways, nice XJ Nick.

Hey Nick, i'm oversea's till April. So only after then will i be going out for a wheel. But as Rupicon said you sould go out on the 28th to menai, its got some good trails out there that will test your rig, Stevet will show you the ones.

Some of the bigger XJ's from the culb might go if you end up going. Just put your name down in the culb trip section...28th menai trip.

Put in a set of 7.5 inch coils in the other week and it has now finally stopped them from dropping out on full flex. Now I have the fun job of replacing the gear box!

Commited the XJ to coilovers today! I've made some bolt on coilover mounts that distribute the load over a larger portion of the unibody and have removed the upper spring seat and cleaned the diffs of the old coil spring saddles. The 14" fox coilovers will be fitted in two weeks when I return from the states with them!

Have they loosened up on the law, when I tried to do this in the late 90's there was no way in hell they'd pass them.

Hunno I checked with an engineer prior to purchasing them to make sure he'd pass them. Hope that still stands!!!

Wow Is an understatement.... Very nice indeed. I'm sure I saw this on one of 4wd action episodes...I love my JKU but could easily swap if you like. :).

Man there's a lot of room under there witht the coilovers, looks real tidy and plenty of flex. So when is it coming out on a club trip ;)

Cheers
Steve

I've been out on a few trips with the club.. but as those who came along know too well, the coils would often fall out at full flex! I didn't want to loose wheel travel by limiting it, but even 7.5" coils with extended bump stops were still falling out at times...this is the reason for the coilovers. They have reduced the amount of flex slightly but overall work well are are nice on the road. I may look at playing around with the rear set up in the future but this is it for now.

I still run the 37" wrangler MTR's for everyday use, but used the 38" Swampers for the build. I haven't run the swampers on the XJ yet as I still need to swap CV's and make a little more room in the wheel wells for off road use with the 38's.

aussiejk

38's.......... you use to run those on the patrol didn't you? Also how come the coil overs are angled towards the back?

Yeah mate..but not on the XJ yet. The coilovers are angled backwards because of their length and the space available to locate the upper mount. But it also gives me more ability to angle them inwards at the top to maintain correct spring loading throughout the travel range from full flex to compression.

Have relocated the top mount on the coilovers to allow for better travel under compression.

This is how the jeep looks now after lowering it, putting front and rear mudflaps on and making a set of brush guards to widen the overall width of the front bar and to cover the the full width of the tyers. This all has to be done to have any chance of engineering.13341335

I reckon it looks great IMHO how did you do the mud flaps?

reyzor

nick, we need to talk about brush bars..... pretty much what im after for mine :P

Hybridxj

Thanks mate - The mud flaps are made out of conveyor belt material and up the front are mounted on a piece of alloy angle, tech screwed to the end of the sill protector bar. The rears are screwed directly to the inside of the wheel arch and a section of the flare. They’re pretty permanent at the moment so I’ll be making them differently soon, so that they are quick to take off before going bush.

No worries! I made these ones with a shitty pipe bender and some old water pipe, but I'm about to get one of the JD squared tube benders, so will be able to do a much better job.

Cheers! As you know, I actually dropped it about 5" a few weeks back to get it engineered. It handles so much better though! I'm about to start working on making a set of tubed front fenders. So I'll be removing the original guard and flare and building a complete replacement, so I can fit 38"s with ease.

Today I installed some bracing plates to strengthen the chassis where the steering box mounts. It was starting to crack and the walls were distorting. I use 6mm plates either side of the chassis and sleeved 2mm crush tubes between them. It has reduced the play in the steering considerably and it no longer has that loud intermittent clunk when turning. Will post some pics soon.

168616881689 I've been playing around with "windows paint". Will hopefully have the jeep's cage and fenders done by Jambo. The cage won't be red though..:smile-new: The front has removable fender flares to keep it road legal.
