View Full Version : I need a small favour....
I need to buy/borrow a 35mm socket in order to my Jeep back on it's wheels sometime tomorrow
Is anyone able to help me out/point me in the right direction?
Sorry, biggest one i've got is 23mm I think.
This is for the big nut on the front axle....suspect it might be worth adding to the communal toolbox, as many emergency front axle jobs on the JK will require it.

Just buy one with a 1 inch drive shouldnt cost you to much and you will get alot of use out of it.
I struck out trying to find anyone with stock that was open today....suspect tomorrow will be even less likely...
The largest socket I have is 11/8 on 1/2 drive if this is any good ring me on 0412 397 264

Don't know where you live, but the tool sellers at Paddys Markets Flemington are open Sunday and usually have all sizes of sockets, from tiny to just showing off!

( 11 / 8 ) * inches = 34.92500 millimetres
I had a look but my 1/2in set only goes up to 32mm and the rough imperial equivalent.
I found an Engineering supply at Windsor, that was open and had one in stock....4 hour round trip though :-(
Still it's in my hand now, so I can start work...

+1 on the paddys market thing, I bought a 38mm from a set, they were happy to sell me just the one and it was cheap. This was for the axle nut on my old Kombi, don't think I've ever used one that big for anythung else.

It's suprising what you can make do with when you are stuck. For the hubs on my D30 front axle I needed a box spanner or socket about 54mm. I had a piece of pipe about the right diameter, castellated the end with a grinder and formed 6 flats to suit the nut size. A hole through each side on the opposite end for a tommy bar and "job done"
Cheers
