The JK looked pretty mean at the TJM open day with the lift, now it just look tough :D
Next major change is a RockKrawler Long Arm Suspension Kit
AFAIK this is the first installation of one of these kits to a diesel JK, so there will be a few new problems to deal with along the way.
First problem is the installation of the control arm brackets - RK supply two hefty brackets that are bolted to the front of the transmission cross member and then welded to the frame rails - both the upper and lower front control arms attach to these brackets.
This creates a few problems:-
- The LHS bracket conflicts with the exhaust, so that needs to be modified
- The RHS bracket uses the space currently occupied by the fuel filter, so that needs to be moved.
- The bash plate that links the two brackets together doesn't provide enough clearance for the CRD exhaust where it crosses under the transmission.

Played about with a few options - decided to split the exhaust into two smaller pipes to run under the transmission sump.

Not quite sure that we've left enough clearance for the drive shaft on full droop, but won't be able to tell until the new shocks are on the front.

Still working on the fuel filter, suspect it will end up on the LHS firewall, under the battery tray.
I like the thought of spliting the pipe into 2, thats using your nut.
Still making slow progress - coilovers should go in later tonight....
Upper Arms in place, chassis rail prepped for coil over brackets

Other Side - note the new upper link mount, and that both upper arms are connected using rebuildable ball joints instead of bushes.

It's taken a little while to sort out the bugs with the new suspension...the front end is now flexing properly, still a little more travel to come from the back end though.

Impressive - Great flex!!!
Great work I'm sure it was worth the wait
Had a chance to get it up a ramp yet..? Beat your old record...
Not yet...will happen sometime soon though...

Looks good - Are you handy with the welder ???
My welding is embarrassing...I'd prefer to somebody more competent to tackle the safety critical stuff like this...
Strut and bump mounts...

what was wrong with the rock krawler coilover set up?
I want to try the ORI struts out....and the RK coilover mount doesn't have enough clearance to run them...and the new front axle is in a different location, so the RK mount was going to take some work anyway...

so what are your plans with the rock krawler mounts and coilovers? if your interested in selling them PM me...
cheers
Dave
Came tantalizingly close to getting it on the road today.....having clearance issues with the brakes....the discs foul on the caliper, but are too big for the lathe...and the beadlock valves foul on the calipers too....
I saw driving in & out of Wooders
dammit!................................
It lives!
The hydro assist steering will take a little getting used to, but I'm loving the struts...corners absolutely flat

very nice very jealous....
Well done!
37s look like 40s on the 2 door ;)

I rekon the 37s look small with the amount of lift or maybe also the flares that make it look big too
Back from Cape York, and back to finishing the build up...now for the rear end stretch, the 14bolt is going back 8" which should give me a 104" wheel base

Shocks will be mounted inside the tub, behind the rear seat
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6111/6258598239_5db452025d.jpg
Still need to do a little work on figuring out the fenders for the stretch...
Shock mounts now in place
http://tapatalk.com/mu/3ba7e80a-9d1d-d83f.jpg
Checking for clearance at full bump - looks like we can run a 37" tyre and an 8" stretch with surprisingly little trimming - the upper white line is where the flare will mount up
http://tapatalk.com/mu/3ba7e80a-9d43-93ce.jpg
That stretch takes ur departure angle to near 90.... Wow.... Ur Jeep will probably scare a Unimog to death...... Next step find some A++++++ tracks because everything will look too easy for ur Jeep.........
It will come back a bit once the rear bar is in place, but the departure angle is a lot better.....new wheelbase is looking like 103" at ride height which should be a bit more stable on the steep stuff.
It will actually be a fair bit lower than it was, the idea is to make it look a lot more conservative than it is.
Nearly there.....thanks to Hunty for the help this morning...

Looks good, the rear flares look a little strange though, I'm guessing they are front turned around?
Cheers
Steve
No - they are rear flares, just relocated a little

Must just be the position of them then and having no bodywork behind them. Should be awesome offroad :)

intresting.... how did you go about re-inforcing the rollbar mount looks like all the support is gone???
intresting.... how did you go about re-inforcing the rollbar mount looks like all the support is gone???
Most of it is still there, but we're tying it down to the chassis rail via a rubber bush anyway...I'll need to do something to reinforce the rollbar in future, so it made sense to add a bit more structure whilst we were working on that area.
